Doubling Down On My Writing

Updated: Jan 2, 2019

If you told me that writing would open up doors for me that I didn't even know existed, I wouldn't have believed you.

Putting the pen to the paper has unlocked so many different career paths that I wish I had time to explore.

Even though I'm back in school doing research full-time, I want to keep writing as a priority since it's one of my most important passions.

Starting the week after next (specifically, Monday, October 1st), I will be writing everyday here on my blog.

Why? I simply want to write more and develop my passion even further. Sure, maybe more professional opportunities will come from it, but more importantly, constantly having to come up with new things to talk about will fundamentally shift the way I currently think.

In addition to writing on my blog everyday, I also plan to write in other places often too:

  • Forbes: I'm getting back on track to publish at least seven times a month, every month, until I graduate. I don't know whether I'll keep up the pace after that.

  • Medium: I've been experimenting with Medium's Partner Program with some promising results. At a minimum, I plan to publish seven times a month since I'll repost content I write on Forbes to there five days after (exclusivity period is the reason). In addition to that, I'll be writing a new series of content that builds on the startup Q&As that I write that will dive deeper into them, so I can derive more insights in entrepreneurship for my audience. Will speak about this more soon. One final thing is that I'll be chronicling my journey in a new profession that I've mentioned multiple times on this blog on there very soon. (If you've payed attention to the hints I've dropped in prior blog posts, you'll know what it is.)

  • LinkedIn: LinkedIn is at a cross-roads for me. Sometimes, I think I've gotten all there is out of the platform. But deep down, I still think there's more professional opportunities for me to discover through the professional networking site. I plan to write short-form content everyday again, starting tomorrow, and also come out with two types of video series that will be posted on Saturday and Sunday. One will be called #TalkTechToMe, where I talk about the coolest things I've heard in technology news, and the other will be called #SodaSundays, where I answer Q&As from students on LinkedIn about how to make the most of their time in college (a.k.a., advice that I really wish I heard when I was an 18-year-old).

It's a lot to take on all at once, especially with the other professional commitments I have in my life, but I am choosing to dedicate myself to writing and creating content going forward. It's going to be a long, arduous nine months, but it will be worth it.

Day 140: A Potential Opportunity Arises

Keeping this short: I may have an opportunity to get into covering content creators. I've learned that accessing creators works differently from covering founders. It all lies with PR firms. More on t

Day 139: No More Stories

I thought of today's title when thinking about Kanye West's "No More Parties In LA." Beyond the surface-level reference to that song, I'm totally serious. No more stories for Forbes. Specifically, I'm

Day 138: Actually Saying "No."

And just like that, I had another founder reach out to me (that I previously wrote on) saying their team needs a story. (They just got acquired!) Unfortunately, I had to turn them down. I have to say
